国際女性デー

　こんにちは。私たち家族が鎌ケ谷に住み始めて5か月になりました。この間、皆さんからたくさんの応援を頂き心から感謝しています。市での仕事や、学校での英語の授業の手伝いなど一生懸命に働く日々です。
　子どもたちも、元気で保育園に通っており、長男のヤコブはこの４月から市内の小学校に通います。どこかで、私たち家族を見かけることがあったら、ぜひお声をかけてください。
　
　さて、ロシアがウクライナに侵攻してから１年が過ぎました。ウクライナでは、厳しい状況が続いていますが、遠く離れた日本にいる私に何ができるか、いつも考えています。そんな中、もうすぐ3月8日を迎えようとしています。改めてその意味を考えてみました。
　
　この日は、国際女性デーですが、日本ではあまりなじみがないようです。国際女性デーは、1975年に、国連により定められた日ですが、1904年3月8日、ニューヨークで、アメリカの女性労働者たちが、婦人参政権を求めて起こしたデモがきっかけと言われています。
これまで、女性が様々な分野で獲得してきた権利や果たす役割を確認するとともに、今後のさらなる前進に向けて話し合う機会として設けられた日となっています。
　
　ただ、女性が一人の人間として、その力を活かし、活躍することができるようになるまでには、たくさんの時間を必要としてきました。
　ウクライナが旧ソ連邦に属していた時代には、その時々で「労働者」「母親」「よき主婦」というイメージが形作られ、私が学ぶ頃には、この祝日は春と美と女性の祝日として、男性が女性に花を贈る日になりました。
　
　でも、ウクライナの首都キーウで暮らすようになり、毎年3月8日、女性の権利を訴えるデモを見て、この日が本来持つべき意味を認識するようになりました。
「女性は人であって人生の飾りではない。」
　祖国ウクライナがロシアの侵攻を受け、男性も、女性も、そして子供も犠牲者となっていく現状に改めて、この言葉を強く受け止めています。21世紀に生きている私に、今できること、私が発信すべきことなど、日々考えています。

The day was set as an opportunity to confirm women's rights and roles they have acquired in various fields and to talk about further progress in the future.
　
It has taken a lot of time for women to be able to use their power and play an active role as a human being.
When Ukraine belonged to the Soviet Union, the image of worker, mother and good housewife was formed by Soviet Union according to country needs from time to time. When I was a child, this holiday became a day for men to send flowers to women as Spring, Beauty and Women's Holiday. The real meaning of the holiday was lost.
　
But I came to live in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and every year I saw women's rights demonstrations, and I started to realize what this day was supposed to mean.
Women are people, not ornaments of life.
I take these words very strongly as Russia invaded my country, Ukraine, and men, women and children are becoming victims. As a person who lives in the twenty first century, I think every day about what I can do now and what I should say.
