8月・夏休み　-Serpen-

　待ちに待った学校の夏休み、8月がやってきました。
　ウクライナの学校は、6月1日から8月31日まで夏休みになります。夏休みには、子ども達は黒海やアゾフ海へ出かけたり、ドニエプル川で泳いだりします。私の国では、泳ぐのに適した水質基準はおそらく日本より低いかもしれません。あるいは私たちはそこまで気にしていないこともあり、侵攻が始まる前は水があればどこでも泳いでいました。
　
　しかし、現在のウクライナは、壊滅的な環境被害により生活様式が崩れてしまっています。

　
　それでもウクライナ人は楽天的で、どんな時でも解決策を見つけようとします。侵攻から1年以上が経った今でも、キーウに行けば、レストランで美味しい食事を楽しむことができるし、ショッピングや美容室、美術館や展示会に出かけることもあります。人々はこれまでの生活スタイルを維持しようとしている一方、残念ながら安全な場所ではない状況が続いています。
　
　さて、ウクライナでは、毎月の名前に意味があります。8月は小麦の穂を刈る道具の「鎌」を意味します。この時期は、冬に備えるため、干し草を収穫する作業があるのでとても大変です。侵攻を受けている今でも、冬の準備は重要で、多忙を極めます。ちなみに、鎌と槌はソビエト連邦のシンボルの一つになっています。　私が来日して、2年目に入りました。日本に住んで1年が経つというと、皆さんからは「もう半分日本人だね」と笑って言われます。日本の生活にすぐ慣れることができた理由は、いくつかあります。美しさ、清潔さ、安全性、丁寧なもてなし、静けさ、規則性、正確性です。子ども達が新しい環境にすぐ馴染む様子にはとても驚きました。私が日本語で分からないことを下の子に聞くと、教えてくれるまでになりました。

　
　夏休み中に、子ども達を連れて、たくさんの経験をしたいと思っています。8月には、子育てイベント「ニコカマフェス」、その中のウクライナ支援コンサートに参加するので楽しみにしています。

Finally comes August and the long-awaited school holiday season.
In Ukraine, there are also schools holidays now, there it began on June 1 and end on August 31. Usually during the holidays, children go to the sea, we have Black Sea and the Azov Sea and go swimming in the rivers even in the Dnieper.
　

Perhaps in my country the criteria for the cleanliness of water suitable for swimming is lower than in Japan, or people care less about this, so before the war we swam in almost all water that we have.
But now in Ukraine there is an ecological catastrophe and I am afraid that we have lost our way of life style.
　

But Ukrainians are optimists and are always looking for solutions. Therefore, even now, when there has been a war in Ukraine for more than a year, you can come to Kyiv to eat delicious food in a restaurant, go shopping, beauty salons, go to a museum, even to an exhibition. People try to preserve their habitual lifestyle. But unfortunately it is still not safe place.
　

In Ukraine, the names of the months are associated with changes in nature, for example, we call August “serpen”, the name comes from the word “serp”- sickle, with which people cut spikelets of wheat. This last month of summer is very busy as people harvest and make hay for the winter. Even now in Ukrainian villages everyone is busy preparing for winter.
　

By the way, the sickle with the hammer, was one of the symbols of the Soviet Union.
This month marks the beginning of my new countdown for another year in Japan.
When I say that I lived in Japan for a year, people joke that I am now half Japanese. It is really very easy to get used to some things in Japan. I get used to beauty, cleanliness, safety, polite treatment, silence, regularity and accuracy.
It is interesting to watch how quickly children get used to a new country, I can already ask my youngest son how to say this or that word in Japanese.
　

My children and I dream of seeing Japan, and I want to travel the country during the holidays. In the next article, I will share my impressions of Nicokama festival, a coming event in August and a charity concert for Ukraine.
