ウクライナと日本の学校

　春を迎え、今までの寒さも去り、服装はすっかりと軽くなりました。変化の4月が過ぎ、5月になりますが、改めて、日本の生活様式が自然と共に変化するということを強く感じています。
　そのひとつが、年度の切り替えで、日本の新年度が4月に始まることに驚きました。ウクライナでは、新年度は1月に始まり、学校は9月から始まります。
　この4月、私にも多くの変化がありました。職場の仲間が違う部署に異動したり、英語の指導員として勤務する学校も変わり、昨年度と違う仕事を始めています。
　
　でも、私の家族にとって、最も大きな変化は、長男が市内の小学校に通学を始めたことです。幸い、息子は喜んで小学校に通っており、新しいお友達もできたようです。ただ、母親としては、新しいことへの対応や、学校制度が母国と違うことに、息子より戸惑っているかもしれません。
　
　ウクライナと日本の学校の違いについて感じることは、いくつかあります。
　まず、ウクライナでは子どもが何歳になったら学校に通うか、という厳密な規則はありません。子どもの特性や親の考えによって、6歳から8歳くらいに入学することが多いです。基礎科目（ウクライナ語、数学、ウクライナ史）で成績が悪いと、親の同意の上、再教育することができます。（ウクライナの義務教育は初等教育4年、中等教育5年の9年で、高校2年を含めた11年間、同じ学校に通います。）
　
　制服がある学校はあまり無く、服装は自由です。ランドセルや学用品も特に決まりは無く、日本ほど充実していません。日本では、全ての学用品に名前をつけることには、少し驚きました。
　清掃は当番制で、自分たちの教室を掃除しますが、教室以外は清掃員が掃除をしてくれます。学校によっては、子ども達が清掃を行わないところもあります。
　
　通学先について、学区はなく、親が行く学校を決めるので、隣町に通学するということも珍しくありません。家からの距離によって、学校のバスや自家用車など、それぞれの方法で通学します。
　私は、4月から市内の小学校で英語の授業を担当していますが、皆さんに英語に慣れていってもらえるよう、カリキュラムを考えています。
　
　祖国、ウクライナの状況は依然として、とても厳しく心が痛む日が続いていますが、鎌ケ谷市の皆さんのたくさんの応援を糧に、少しでも恩返しができるように精一杯頑張ります。これからもどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

May has come, no more cold days, and our clothes have become lighter and thinner. April of a lot of changes has finished, and it is on May now. I strongly feel that the way of life in Japan goes in sync with nature.
One of them is the change of fiscal year, and I was surprised that the new fiscal year in Japan starts in April. In Ukraine, the new fiscal year starts in January and school starts in September.
A lot has changed for me this April. My colleagues at work have been transferred to different assignments, I have new boss, and start working at another school.
　
But, the biggest change for my family was that my eldest son started attending an elementary school in Japan. Luckily, my son is happy to go to elementary school, and he seems to have made new friends. However, as a mother, I may be more confused than my son about how to deal with new things and how the school system is different from Ukrainian school.
　
There are several things that I feel about the differences between Ukrainian and Japanese schools.
First of all, in Ukraine there are no strict rules about how old a child should be to go to school. Depending on the characteristics of the child and the thoughts of the parents, it is often the case that children enter school from 6 to 8 years old. Poor grades in basic subjects (Ukrainian language, mathematics, Ukrainian history) can be re-educated in grades 3-8 with parental consent.
(Compulsory education in Ukraine is 4 years of primary education, 5 years of secondary education, 9 years, and students go to the same school for 11 years, including 2 years of high school.)
　
There are not many schools with uniforms, so children can dress freely. There are no rules regarding randoseru and school supplies, in Ukraine we don't have a backpack how do you use for school in Japan. In Japan, I was a little surprised to sign the name on all school supplies.
Cleaning is a turn system, and children clean only their own classrooms, but cleaning staff cleaning other rooms in the school. Some schools do not allow children to clean.
　
In Ukraine we have school districts, but parents can decide which school their child to go to, so it is not uncommon for children to commute to neighboring towns. Depending on the distance from home, students go to school by public transport or private car.
I started working in English classes at elementary schools since April, and I want children to love learning a new language and feel free to use it.
　
The situation in my homeland, Ukraine, continues to be very difficult and heartbreaking, but I will do my best to give back as much as possible with the support of everyone in Kamagaya City. Thank you for your continued support.
